Steelseries Apex Keyboards-CES 2013

After a long time Steelseries announced a new keyboard at CES 2013 today. Steelseries is a brand of choice , especially for professional gamers around the word are into cyber gaming tournaments Now the keyboard is’nt something flashy, but is usually assures a solid build quality and performance.

The Apex seems to have  been inspired from alienware, with its key color scheme strikingly resembling alienware’s mx17x laptops which show off individual key zone illumination with different color choice as per the user. It has SEX written all over it if you ask me ! Visually stunning ! This beautiful keyboard allows a user to select from 16.8 million colors to paint 5 individual zones differently. With the help Steelseries utility(included) you should be able to come up with a unique set of colors to change its look (this effectiveley means every user will have his own unique keyboard as per his style ). The keys will have 8 different brightness with an added feature that allows one to be able to set the color for the led trail at the sides of the keyboard ( as release images suggest).
Steelseries does’nt stop here ! They have even  added some usb ports to the keyboard to connect a flash drive or a mouse along with  audio jacks . The keyboard comes with two swappable feets to adjust it to the height you feel is just about right . The “W” key on the Apex now has two small tactile bumps in order to return to main “w-a-s-d” keys after chatting in online multiplayer, without having the need to look at your keyboard. This is especially  be handy in terms of typing , where you are  assured of that fact that your hands are rested on right keys while typing.It has 22 macro keys on the left and top of the keyboard which are raised from the normal key height so that user will have easy access to macros. Thanks to individual color zone illumination, we will be able to highlight and notice macros as fast as possible while playing games. There are 4 layer of macro switches giving the user the liberty to chose from as many as 4 different macro profiles plus the illumination combinations suitable to particular games on the go.The antighosting feature , with 20 key rollover recognizing each key pressed at the same time. These keyboards have a slightly bigger spacebar key as well as some extra arrow keys which from my point of view is of  hardly any use !
Only thing I am not sure of is  whether or not the keyboard is mechanical. With that slick design that they have displayed i highly doubt it. The fact that Steelseries didn’t mention it, also supports my doubt. But it shouldnt be much of a worry as membrane keys are also pretty neat if you select the right keyboard which offers tactile feedback as mechanical keys do.Steelseries Apex keyboards are made to provide competitive performance as well as to hook you up with some style.
