The upgraded ubislate 7 aka aakash 2, features at a glance

Indian government and datawind finally took criticism of their ambitious project aakash seriously and launched the tablets with upgraded features to make them acceptable among indian technology freaks.  They have realized the fact that they can not sell their product solely due to it being the cheapest among the other tablets. The new versions of the android device come with acceptable features and specifications although the hike in price was inevitable. However , with these specs aakash 2 still remains the cheapest tablet with standard specifications in its category.
The revisions to the former version of akash were made by extensive research conducted by IIT Bombay if Mr. kapil sibbal is to be believed. He has strong faiths in the success of the upgraded version of the tablet and propagated it to be a perfect mix of affordability and latest technology.
The new revised ubislate tablet has been launched as three different models Ubislate 7ci, Ubislate 7c+ and ubislate 7cz. Most of the specifications and features of all the three are same with one or two exceptions.  The common features of all the three are listed below:

• Capacitive Display: This is a big improvement from aakash to aakash 2. The resistive screen has been replaced by capacitive multitouch 7 inches screen which adds a lot to the user experience. Now you can navigate through your tab with ease.
• 1 GHz Processor: The processor is a 1 Ghz Cortex A8 which is quite a capable one. Runs programs with any lag and does resource intensive tasks easily.
• Memory: The RAM has been upgraded to 512 MB which is just sufficient , 1 GB would have been much better though. It comes with a 4gb of internal memory which is quite sufficient to install all the apps you like.
• Connectivity: All the three models have Wi-fi as the connectivity option. All the three come with USB support.There is a memory card slot which you can use to expand the memory upto 32 GB.
• All the three have front VGA Camera for video calling.
• All the three have android 4.0.3 as the operating system.

Besides all the above mentioned common features of different models of aakash 2 below is the comparison of features that make three of them different.

Ubislate 7 ci is the commercial version of the upgraded aakash 2. This tablet is available at discounted prices from indian government only via educational institutions primarily IIT Bombay. However datawind has listed the commercial versions of all the three models on sale on its website. The prices each of the version of aakash 2 are as follows:

• Ubislate 7ci (Or aakash 2) costs Rs 4,499
• Ubislate 7c+ costs Rs. 4,999
• Ubislate 7CZ which is the most advanced version costs 5,999

The booking of aakash tablet and its delivery have always been big problems. But i guess this inconvenience is being taken care of now.The first one can be ordered and it is dispatched within 24-48 hours of receiving the payment. The other two can be pre booked here and they are generally shipped within 6-8 weeks of making the payment as claimed by datawind on their website. There used to be a form to to check the booking status of aakash tablet but it doesn’t exist any more. I guess the support team was flooded with requests and it decided to shut down the facility.
Anyways, the aakash venture seems to be recovering from its initial flaws and complaints. I would really love to see if it wins user vote in india again.
